THE WHOLE TRUTH RETREAT : PRE- CLEANSE AND PREPARATION

Thank you for confirming your space at this retreat! The information presented here will help you to prepare to participate to the fullest. Included are dietary recommendations to support your physical body throughout the juice cleanse, suggestions for making some mental space that will allow you to be more fully present during the retreat, and a list of items to bring along to make your stay more comfortable.

DIETARY RECOMMENDATIONS

With at least 7 days of gentle preparation, your transition into the raw food diet /juice cleanse will be far smoother, allowing your body to detoxify quickly and effectively, as well as limit the degree to which symptoms such as headache and nausea are experienced. You are encouraged to commit to the following suggestions as fully as you can. When you are unable to stick to the recommendations, don’t be hard on yourself, but do remember that even small changes are worthwhile- keep at it!

 

FOOD CHOICES

Our dietary choices have an enormous impact on the pH of our bodies- the cleansing, healing, and maintenance of healthy systems are supported best by alkaline forming foods, such as fresh fruits and vegetables.

Follow these guidelines:

  • Choose fresh, organic vegetables, leaves, fruit and herbs over pre-cut, tinned or frozen ones.

  • Choose wholegrains (brown rice/ quinoa), pulses (lentils, chickpeas, beans) seeds (flaxseed, sesame, chia, hemp) and nuts (brazil, almond, cashew, walnut) over refined and processed foods (bread, pasta, biscuits and any pre- prepared meals, sauces or dressings)

  • Choose cold-pressed oils (olive, hemp, avocado oil) on salads and cook or bake with coconut oil over refined or poly-unsaturated fats (sunflower oil, maize oil, margarine)

  • Choose natural sweeteners (honey, maple syrup, coconut sugar or nectar) over sugar or artificial sweeteners 


 

For the pre-cleanse period, refrain from eating dairy products, eggs and meat/fish entirely. If this feels untenable for you right now, follow these guidelines:

  • Choose soft cheeses (goat’s cheese, feta, ricotta) over harder mature cheeses or those with mould strains (cheddar, parmesan, brie or blue cheese)

  • Choose lighter animal produce like eggs, fish, or organic chicken over red meat, pork, or smoked/ cured meat.

 

 

FOOD PREPARATION

 

  • Choose organic ingredients wherever possible.

  • Choose meals that are freshly prepared over frozen foods, packaged goods and leftovers

  • Choose meals that contain a large proportion of raw food.

  • Choose foods that are steamed or lightly cooked over those that are fried or 
baked in oil

     

HYDRATION

  • Aim to drink at least 2l of pure spring water daily to support your body’s natural cleansing functions. In hot weather conditions or if you are undertaking strenuous physical activity you may need to increase your water intake further.

  • Caffeinated drinks such as tea, coffee and fizzy drinks, have a diuretic effect (amongst others) and should be avoided. 


 

NUTRIENT SUPPLEMENTATION

We will be supporting the cleansing process with organic juices and natural food supplements for the duration of the retreat, but suggest that you begin supplementing certain nutrients prior to your arrival.All of these items should be available at your nearest health shop. 


  • B vitamins (especially Vitamins B6 and B12) Viridian’s B Complex or B Complex High12 are recommended.

  • Omega Oils- 2 TBsp cold pressed Hemp Seed Oil/ Flax Seed oil daily. Keep refrigerated once opened.

  • Fibre- 1 TBsp of Psyllium Husk daily mixed into juice or water. Drink immediately to avoid thickening, and increase your daily water intake as the Psyllium Husk absorbs water readily. Drinking a full glass of water straight after taking the Psyllium Husk is a good idea.

BREAKING AWAY FROM HABITS

Many of us use substances to control our mood, mental state, or as an avoidance or distraction. Caffeine, nicotine, sugar, and both recreational and prescription drugs may be used in this way, as may television, social media, and gaming.

During your time on retreat, you will have the opportunity to break away from your habitual patterns.The pre-cleanse period is a good opportunity to begin to free yourself of these, by choosing to cut out or limit usage.

Please take advice from your healthcare practitioner before discontinuing any medication.

 

DISCONNECT TO RECONNECT

For the duration of The Whole Truth Retreat, you are invited to switch off and preferably hand over your electronic devices for safekeeping in case the temptation is too great. Do let your work colleagues, friends and family know that you will be on retreat and request that they refrain from contacting you during this time, except in an emergency. If you do wish to keep in touch with children or a partner we encourage you to keep it as simple and brief as possible.

During your Pre-cleanse, prepare to leave your work and home by tying up as many loose ends as possible. If it helps, write a list of things that you will need to attend to on your return, and on the day of your departure, resolve not to think about them at all until then.

This retreat also offers you the opportunity to disconnect from the ever- present influx of media and advertising. Without access to newspapers,TV, magazines and the internet you are able to be more discerning about the information you choose to take in. During the pre-cleanse week, begin to make choices about what is worthy of your attention.When you pack for your retreat take only reading material that reflects this.

 

WHAT TO BRING

Alarm Clock/ Watch- avoid using your cellphone as a time piece


Swimming Costume, Swimming Towel, Sun Hat, natural sun protection

All weather clothing/ rain gear- the weather is usually warm and pleasant but can be changeable

Comfortable shoes- for gentle hiking

Natural personal care products- natural toothpaste, moisturiser, shampoo, deodorant etc. are recommended for use during the cleanse

Natural Mosquito repellent

Small blanket/wrap and comfortable clothing- for yoga

Old clothes- for Intuitive Art

Meditation support/ Yoga mat/ Props- these are provided, but feel free to bring your own if you prefer

 

THERAPIES

A list of therapists, treatments offered and their costs will be sent to you prior to the retreat. You have the opportunity to pre-book treatments before your arrival if you wish.

We encourage you have one or more treatments daily as loving touch, listening, insight and care offer invaluable support during this time of introspection and accelerated processing.

Please ensure that you bring enough cash for the treatments you may wish to have, as there are no cash withdrawal facilities close by.
